Lombard Fire fights early morning kitchen fire, no injuries
LOMBARD, Illinois—The Lombard Fire Department responded to a working kitchen fire this morning at 1018 East Maple. There were no injuries reported and damage was estimated at $100,000.
The call was dispatched at 4:59 a.m. and upon arrival, Engine 45 and the on duty Shift Commander reported smoke in the area. Upon further investigation, Engine 45 reported heavy fire in the rear of the building in the kitchen area. Engine 45, along with Medic 62, then began laying out their attack hose lines to the rear of the building. Engine 43 and Tower Ladder 52 arrived and assisted Engine 45 with extinguishment and ventilation.
Four occupants were in the house at the time of the fire. The smoke detectors in the residence alerted the occupants and all were able to evacuate and were accounted for outside. The Lombard Fire Department performed a primary and secondary search of the building to ensure no other occupants were inside.
The fire extended to the eaves and an attached garage; however that damage was not excessive, according to Battalion Chief Ron Rakosnik. “The home did sustain heat, smoke and water damage and was deemed uninhabitable,” said Rakosnik. “The family is currently being housed at a local hotel and the fire is currently under investigation by the Lombard Fire Investigation Unit,” he added.
Lombard Fire Department received assistance from Oak Brook and Villa Park fire departments.
