Ryan Kennedy got the Opening Day start, and he and his Warren baseball teammates got their season off to a great start.
The Valparaiso-bound Kennedy pitched 4 innings of 1-hit ball, striking out seven and walking a pair, as the Blue Devils blanked visiting Carmel Catholic 8-0 in Gurnee.
Caleb Haley (1 innings) and Kevin Colburn (1 inning) finished up on the mound for Warren, which out-hit the Corsairs 5-2, breaking up a 2-0 game with a 6-spot in the fourth.
Carmel’s hits were a double by Tim Hendricks and a single by Luke Venegoni.
Pat Kenney went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI for the Blue Devils, while Anthony Garza was 2-for-3 with a single. Mike Herrmann (walk) knocked in a pair of runs for Warren, and Alex Letto (2 walks) had an RBI as well.
