For Round Lake schools: Radford, Weiss Berdenis, Hanna and Negrete McGinley
Daily Herald Editorial Board
Round Lake Area Unit District 116 is at a turning point. After years of state control brought on by severe budget problems, the school district is going it alone. Now, finances are on the straight and narrow, but academic achievement and aging buildings remain issues. Five good candidates are competing for four seats on the school board: incumbents Nanci Radford, a board member since 2002; Lori Weiss Berdenis, appointed in 2010; Annette Negrete McGinley, on the board since 2006; and Tammie Hanna, elected in 2007; as well as challenger Mellody Gomez, a bilingual teacher in McHenry schools. We endorse the incumbents — Radford, Weiss Berdenis, Negrete McGinley and Hanna — for their experience and hard work. Radford, Negrete McGinley and Hanna have earned master board member status for completing training through the Illinois Association of School Boards, an indication of their dedication to Round Lake schools.
