Minor flooding expected along Illinois River

PEORIA, Ill. — Winter may finally be ending in central Illinois, which means it's time for flooding again.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln is telling Peoria-area residents that areas along the Illinois River will be under a flood warning from Tuesday night through further notice. The weather service tells the (Peoria) Journal Star that minor flooding is expected through at least Friday.

Motorists in low-lying areas near the river are urged to avoid roadways with water on them while the warning is in effect.

Flood stage at Peoria is 18 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage early Wednesday morning and crest near 18.4 feet early Friday morning.
