Two people injured after car hits motorcycle in Beach Park
Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries after a motorcycle versus car crash Thursday evening in Beach Park, Lake County sheriff's police said Friday.
Sheriff's Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said a 38-year-old man, driving a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle, and a 24-year-old woman, who was riding with him, are expected to survive their injuries. Both are from Waukegan.
The woman was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with major facial injuries and the man was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. Covelli said the man's injuries were to his body and weren't as severe as the woman's injuries.
The crash occurred at around 8:05 p.m. near the intersection of Sheridan Road and West Talmadge Avenue on the east side of Beach Park. Covelli said investigators believe the crash happened because the driver of a Kia sedan who was heading northbound on Sheridan Road made a left turn onto West Talmadge Avenue in front of the motorcycle, which was traveling in the southbound lanes.
The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Kia and the man and woman were thrown from the bike.
The driver of the Kia, a 22-year-old Waukegan man, was uninjured in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Covelli said the driver of the Kia likely will be issued a traffic citation.
