Church to begin serving free, hot Friday dinners
Fox Valley Presbyterian Church in Geneva will be joining other Fox Valley churches that are providing a monthly meal to the community.
The church, at 227 East Side Drive, Geneva, will be serving a free, hot meal on the third Friday of each month. Volunteers are ready to begin cooking and serving Third Friday Community Dinners from 5 to 7 p.m. starting on April 16. There will be absolutely no cost to diners, and they may choose to eat at the church or take a meal home.
"Our church's mission is to 'Grow, Love, Serve,' and we feel that providing a meal each month is a good way to serve our neighbors and build community," said Ruth Ann Seney, director of hospitality.
Kitchen organizer Craig Copper has been practicing his cooking and organizing skills by preparing meals for members of the congregation during the Advent and Lenten seasons this year. The menu for April will be roast pork, mashed potatoes, corn, salad and dessert. A children's menu will also be available.
The purpose is not only to provide a meal but a place where people, families and singles, can meet and create community. All are invited to share a meal and get better acquainted with others in the area.
