In Dist. 95: Goldberg, Burke, Pietro
Daily Herald Editorial Board
Having beaten back financial problems a few years ago, the Lake Zurich Unit District 95 board now is positioned to move on to other issues. Chief among them are escalating problems with older schools and a lawsuit over two newer ones, as well as a teacher contract expiring in 2012. Incumbents Doug Goldberg, Jim Burke and Tony Pietro and challenger Chris Wallace are competing for three seats. We endorse the incumbents for their experience and well-considered approaches to those issues. Goldberg, appointed in 2009, is knowledgeable about ongoing legal action alleging faulty construction at Spencer Loomis Elementary School and Lake Zurich Middle School North. Burke, a stay-at-home dad elected in 2009, advocates for special education students. Pietro, elected in 2007, would like to tie teacher pay to the Consumer Price Index. The candidates created a stir in this race with comments made in a Daily Herald interview supporting teaching creationism; only Wallace continues to hold that position.
