City extends award deadline: Elgin's Image Commission has extended the deadline for its recognition program until Friday, Aug. 27. The program posthumously honors Elginites who have made a significant contribution in the city or elsewhere or people born outside of Elgin who made a difference in Elgin. There are eight categories through which people may be nominated: professional architecture; communications; education; the arts; military/government/public service; science/medicine; volunteerism; and business. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the offices of Baird and Warner, 2255 Randall Road, Carpentersville, which also is the sponsor. The ride will swing into Wisconsin with the fifth and final stop at Bandito Barney's, 10 N. River St., East Dundee. Registration is $20 and there will be prizes, raffles, food and drinks.
