Girls soccer/Fox Valley roundup
Bartlett’s girls soccer team couldn’t find the back of the net Saturday and fell 1-0 to Rolling Meadows in the championship game of the South Elgin Spring Break Tournament at Millennium Field in Streamwood.
Natalie Grodzki made 5 saves in goal for the Hawks (5-2-2) but they couldn’t overcome a first-half goal by the Mustangs.
Hampshire 5, Elgin 0: The Whip-Purs (1-1-4) used a balanced offensive attack to earn their first victory of the season as they defeated the Maroons at the South Elgin tournament. Lissy Panzica, Helena Van Eck (1 assist), Morgan Beaver, Alex Zeller, and Emily Zeller all recorded goals for the Whip-Purs. Haylee Moscato preserved the shutout in goal as she recorded 6 saves.
Crystal Lake South 1, Dundee-Crown 0: The Gators (2-3-1) were able to put in a second half goal to beat the Chargers (2-5) and earn fifth-place in the South Elgin tournament. Alex Romano netted the Gators’ lone goal off a feed from Kali Loescher. Elizabeth Quinn recorded 1 save to preserve the shutout while Ali Sanders registered 13 saves for the Chargers.
West Chicago 4, South Elgin 1: The Storm (4-3) could not overcome a 3-goal deficit after one half of play as they were defeated in the third-place match of their own tournament. Lauren Vedrine scored the Storm’s only goal off an assist from freshman Savanah Uveges. Emily Young was busy in goal as she recorded 12 saves for the Storm.
Marian Central 2, Burlington Central 0: The Rockets (0-4) made great strides in the pursuit of finding their first win of the season, but fell short as they were defeated by Marian Central in a makeup game of the Huntley Tournament. Caitlin Solberg recorded 13 saves in goal for the Rockets.
Elk Grove 2, Cary-Grove 0: The Trojans were unable to get on the board as they were defeated on the road at Elk Grove. Krystal Felderman recorded 5 saves in goal.
Streamwood 5, Addison Trail 0: The Sabres jumped out to a big 4-0 halftime lead and never looked back as they defeated Addison Trail on the road. Kim Jimenez led the Sabres offensively as she recorded a hat trick. Amy Tyszkiewicz (1 assist) and Brianna Spike scored Streamwood’s other 2 goals while Stephanie Brown added 3 assists. Brianna Roppo preserved the shutout as she turned away 8 shots on goal.
Jacobs 5, Andrew 0: The Golden Eagles came out strong, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime and cruising to an easy victory over Andrew at home. Cassidy Sherman and Melanie Duda each scored 2 goals while Lizzie Travis recorded the Golden Eagles’ other goal. Margaret Rivera and Shannon Grady recorded 3 and 2 assists, respectively. Monica Orjeula stopped 9 shots on goal to earn the shutout.
