Elgin man charged in Carpentersville drug probe
An undercover drug sting in Carpentersville that started in November and ended Thursday resulted in an Elgin man being charged with selling heroin and cocaine to police, Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart said Friday.
In two cases, Christopher S. Wallace, 27, of the 1300 block of Corley Drive, sold cocaine within 1,000 feet of Lakewood Elementary School in Carpentersville, according to court documents.
Police said they arranged to buy drugs from Wallace on five separate occasions between Nov. 5 and Thursday. The first four times, police bought a total of 7.7 grams of cocaine from Wallace. Police Thursday arranged to buy 18.28 grams of heroin from him, Bosshart said.
Bosshart had no information on how much police paid for the drugs, but said cocaine typically has a street value between $60 and $80 per gram, while heroin is worth $100 per gram.
Wallace was charged with one count of manufacture and delivery of heroin, two counts of manufacture and delivery of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, one count of heroin possession and four counts of manufacture and delivery of cocaine, police said.
His bail was set Friday morning at $400,000, which means he needs $40,000 to secure his release while his case is pending.
Wallace is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 9.
If found guilty of one of the three most serious charges, Wallace could spend between 6 and 30 years in prison.
