Wittkamp to sign with Indiana State
In addition to her school work, Rebekka Wittkamp will use her pen for another important assignment today, too.
The Schaumburg senior center-midfielder will write her signature on a letter of intent to play for the Indiana State women's soccer team at 8 a.m.
"Next fall, I am very excited about playing for Indiana State and Coach Erika True," Wittkamp said.
But for now, she is looking forward to her senior season for coach Greg Charvat's Saxons.
"I think that with our coaches and the girls we have on the team this year we can be really good," Wittkamp said.
As a freshman and sophomore, she started for the Saxons' varsity.
Wittkamp, who has played on a lot of travel soccer teams, says she loves the high school game.
"I would play a great game in Arizona against the No. 3 team in the nation, and come back to school and nobody knew or cared about it," Wittkamp said. "But when we would beat a team in conference, everyone in school the next day would say great game and that was cool."
"I have learned a lot from all the different teams I have been on, but there is nothing like playing with and in front of your friends and families where you live."
Wittkamp started playing soccer when she was six years old in the Schaumburg Athletic Association (SAA).
At the age of 9, she switched to club soccer at Sockers F.C. in Palatine and is still a part of that team.
In the summer months, Wittkamp was a part of a 3v3 soccer team that reached the national finals three times.
Wittkamp has been selected to the ODP (Olympic Development Program) Illinois State Team for the past five years.
