Carol Stream man charged stabbing
Bail was set at $150,000 Friday for a Carol Stream man accused of stabbing two men who made disparaging remarks about his girlfriend.
Jetniel Munoz, 24, of the 600 block of Willow Wood Drive, was being held in the DuPage County jail on four counts of aggravated battery.
Prosecutors said Munoz told police he felt “disrespected” early Wednesday after a conversation at a friend’s Carol Stream apartment on the 500 block of Gunderson Drive turned to a woman he was dating. Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Baumann said Munoz “cooled off” briefly after hearing the comments, then retrieved a knife from the kitchen and attacked the two victims.
“A witness heard him yell ‘I’m going to kill you’ and (saw him) waving the knife around,” Baumann said. “He told police he didn’t want to be disrespected.”
Both victims were stabbed three times each and later underwent surgery for severe injuries. Baumann said one man was stabbed in the face, arm and abdomen, while the other was stabbed twice in the arm and once in the shoulder. The attack happened about 1:15 a.m.
Baumann said police caught up with Munoz after he ran from the scene and was driven to Orland Park in an attempt to evade authorities.
Judge Michael Wolfe set bail Friday at $150,000, meaning Munoz will have to post $15,000 to go free while his case is pending. Munoz told the judge he was likely to post bond. As a condition of release, he has been barred from having contact with the victims.
Prosecutors said Munoz’s criminal history includes prior arrests for aggravated driving under the influence and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
