Nation of Islam to host education conference
CHICAGO — Developing a new generation of readers and eliminating illiteracy will be some of the topics at an education conference this week hosted by the Nation of Islam.
The event starts Thursday at the Chicago-based movement's Muhammad University of Islam on the city's South Side. It's the fourth year of the conference.
There'll be workshops, presentations and speeches by leaders within the Nation of Islam and its ministry of education. The theme is "Developing a Nation of Readers."
The group's leader, Louis Farrakhan, is scheduled to give a keynote address Saturday afternoon.
