Ind. city happy with campaign to oust crows

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Terre Haute officials say their campaign to frighten away thousands of crows that are creating a nuisance in the western Indiana city is starting to work.

The Tribune-Star reports that the chairman of the Terre Haute Crow Response Committee says the fireworks that volunteers began setting off earlier this month are interfering with the birds' daily routine of flying from the Wabash River into the city at sundown. Those fireworks are driving many of the birds south of the city.

Crow Response Committee Chairman John Hancewicz (HANG-Kuh-Witz) says that even though the fireworks have not driven away all of the birds, they are keeping them out of many populated areas.

The committee's goal is to have the crows roost at night in unpopulated areas.
