Periodic Traffic Interruptions on Washington Street at BNSF Underpass Expected June 10, 13 and 14

Restrictions Necessary for Platform Reconstruction at Downtown Naperville Metra Station

On Friday, June 10; Monday, June 13; and Tuesday, June 14, traffic on Washington Street between 5th Avenue and North Avenue will be reduced to one lane. In addition, traffic will be stopped for periodic intervals in that location from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Northbound and southbound motorists on Washington Street can expect to experience delays during this time. Motorists should allow additional time for their trip or seek an alternate route to avoid these delays.

The periodic traffic stoppage is necessary to pour concrete for the reconstruction of the platform on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad Bridge over Washington Street as part of the Naperville Metra Station Platform Improvement Project. Flagging operations will be in effect to guide traffic and ensure passage of emergency vehicles. This work is weather dependent; notice of schedule changes will be posted to the city's website at www.naperville.il.us/metraplatform.aspx.

The Metra Platform Improvement Project involves removal and reconstruction of the north and south platforms of the Naperville Metra Station. Construction is slated for completion in 2012. For more information on the Metra Station Platform Improvement Project, visit the city's website at www.naperville.il.us/metraplatform.aspx.

Commuters, residents, business owners and other stakeholders are encouraged to register on the city's website at www.naperville.il.us/enews.aspx to receive the Metra Platform Improvement Project e-Newsletter. While this is strictly a Metra project, the city will distribute news via this communication outlet as it becomes available.
