Carpentersville police nab wanted suspect

A 27-year-old Carpentersville man faces mandatory prison time after being arrested on a warrant for possessing and selling cocaine to undercover officers.

Authorities had been looking for Jesus M. Salazar since March 11 when police raided his home in the 600 block of Topeka Drive, Carpentersville.

Carpentersville police arrested two other men that night, but couldn't find Salazar until about 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 7500 block of Redwood Street, Crystal Lake, when he was picked up a warrant, said Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart.

Salazar's bond was set at 10 percent of $125,000 Thursday.

"After an undercover operation, they executed a search warrant on that home," Bosshart said. "They found a bunch of cocaine and cannabis in the home they were able to tie to Salazar. This was not a part-time gig (for him).""

Salazar is charged with possession of 105.5 grams of cocaine, which is nearly four ounces, along with 192.9 grams of marijuana, or nearly seven ounces. Salazar faces several felony charges for possession of marijuana and cocaine, along with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

The last charge is the most serious, and carries a six- to 30-year prison sentence if convicted with no option for supervision.

In the weeks before the raid on this home, Salazar also is accused of selling 2.2 grams of cocaine to an undercover officer at a gas station within 1,000 feet of the Meadowdale Elementary School, 14 Ash St., Carpentersville.
