Bridge to be removed along trail at DuPage River Park in Naperville

A wooden bridge that is part of the DuPage River Trail at DuPage River Park is worn and at the end of its useful life span.

The bridge is approximately 70 feet long and currently spans a drainage ditch in the park that collects stormwater, which flows to the East Branch of the DuPage River, just south of the bridge.

Beginning the week of July 31, the bridge will be removed.

The contractor will then install a concrete box culvert perpendicular to the bridge to channel stormwater toward the river.

Next, the contractor will replace the bridge with a section of asphalt trail that will cover the culvert and connect to the rest of the trail. Finally, the landscaping will be restored in the project area.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of August.

During construction, a section of the DuPage River Trail will be closed to trail users.

A detour map is posted at napervilleparks.org/dupageriverpark and signs will be placed along the trail to direct users to the detour.

Trails are one of the most popular park amenities in the community, and this improvement will provide a smoother surface along a section of the DuPage River Trail, enhance drainage and minimize maintenance.
