Grenade found at Mundelein Goodwill not dangerous

Several police agencies were called to a Goodwill store late Wednesday after employees found a grenade in a box of donated items, Mundelein police said.

According to Cmdr. Don Hansen of the Mundelein Police Department, someone left the grenade at the Goodwill store at 761 S. Midlothian. When workers were unpacking a box, the grenade was discovered. Police were called about 9 p.m.

Hansen said members of the Waukegan bomb squad determined the grenade was a training device and not dangerous. It was confiscated by the Waukegan bomb squad, he said.

It remains unclear who turned in the training grenade, he said, and the era of the grenade is unknown at this time.
