$1 million bail set in Des Plaines stabbing

A Cook County judge set bail at $1 million for an 18-year-old Des Plaines man charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery in a weekend stabbing police say stemmed from a dispute over a woman.

Judge Marcia Orr also ordered Tomas Berrum to be placed on electronic monitoring if he posts 10 percent, or $100,000, bond required for his release from Cook County Jail.

Berrum, of the 2000 block of Pine Street, thought his girlfriend was cheating on him with the 18-year-old victim, who also lives in Des Plaines, police said. Berrum allegedly lured the man to a house in the 1900 block of Maple Street intending to kill him, police said.

Berrum next appears in Skokie's Second Municipal District at 9 a.m. on Friday, Fe. 26.
