Duehr, Antioch get it done twice

Olivia Duehr and her Antioch softball teammates made their long drive to Aurora worthwhile Thursday.

The Sequoits swept a doubleheader from West Aurora, 13-3 in five innings and 9-1.

The Northwestern-bound Duehr went 7-for-8 on the day, homering and doubling in each contest, as Antioch (2-1) won its first games of the season.

In the first game, Duehr was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI. She belted a 3-run shot in the first inning, and Amber Mysliwiec followed with a home run of her own. Mysliewiec (3-for-4), Katie Phillips and Katie Keefe (2 RBI) also doubled for Antioch.

Duehr pitched 4 innings for the win, striking out eight, walking five and allowing 2 hits. Phillips tossed the final frame.

The second game saw Duehr drew a walk in the opening inning, before hitting an RBI single in the third, homering to lead off the fifth, doubling in a four-run sixth and singling again in the seventh.

The Sequoits received 2 hits apiece from Mysliwiec, Phillips (RBI), Sam Kozenski and Keefe (3 RBI).

Keefe also pitched a complete game, allowing 4 hits, while striking out three and not walking a batter. The 1 run she allowed was unearned.

Lake Zurich 4, Palatine 2: The Bears rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to wipe out a 2-1 deficit.

Lake Zurich (3-2) got 2 hits apiece from Paige Goldberg (2 runs, 2 stolen bases) and Tab Bohac. Winning pitcher Megan Mattera (3-2) had a single and 2 RBI. The Bears also got singles from Kasey Roe (RBI), Kelly Neises, Christina Sandstedt and Melanie Spears.

Mattera allowed a pair of unearned runs in the third. She scattered 4 hits, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.
