Elgin man sentenced to 6 years for sexual assault
A 34-year-old Elgin man, who authorities say met his 12-year-old victim on MySpace, was sentenced to six years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault.
The class X felony carries a sentence of six to 30 years in prison.
Khan must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before he is eligible for release.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, Fahad Khan, whose address is listed in court records as the 200 block of Courtland Drive, met and chatted online with the then-12-year-old boy in 2007. A phone conversation following during which they agreed to meet. Khan picked the boy up and took him back to the Des Plaines home where Khan was then living and assaulted him, authorities said.
The victim shut down his MySpace page but police say Khan contacted him again about a year later after finding him again on the social network site. The victim’s family gave a sheriff’s police officer permission to assume the boy’s identity online, authorities said. After agreeing to meet the undercover officer pretending to be the boy, Khan was arrested in a Melrose Park parking lot.
Khan was also sentenced to two years in prison for possession of child pornography. He must serve at least 50 percent of that sentence before he is eligible for parole. The court ordered he serve the sentences consecutively.
