Retailer rue21 coming to Algonquin
National fashion retailer rue21 will be coming soon to Randall Road in Algonquin.
The store will open early summer after signing a lease for a 5,204-square-foot space in the Algonquin Commons shopping center at 1900 S. Randall Road, a spokeswoman for Inland Real Estate Corp. said.
The store sells apparel and accessories for men and women, and is “expanding aggressively” with a plan to open 100 stores this year, according to Inland.
rue21 currently has two locations in Aurora, one in Gurnee, one in Woodridge and one in Oswego, according to its website. Another location in Lincolnwood will be coming soon. The word “rue” means “street” in French, and 21 is “the age that everyone wants to be,” the website explains.
Sylvan Learning Center, a tutoring and education center, also signed a lease for a space in Algonquin Commons, and will be relocating from the Esplanade of Algonquin shopping center, farther south along Randall Road.
Sylvan is moving because it wanted to continue leasing rather than have to buy a space, said Sylvan local Director Jill Holtz. “The Esplanade never developed as it was supposed to, and we’re looking forward a have all that foot traffic” in Algonquin Commons, she said.
The company offers classes on study skills for reading, writing and math, and test preparation for college admissions and state exams. It will occupy a 1,640-square-foot space and might move around Memorial Day, Holtz said.
With these latest two tenants, Algonquin Commons will hit a 91-percent occupancy rate, Inland said. The shopping center was built in 2004.
