Cops: Man tries to hold up Arlington restaurant

One 16-year-old juvenile is in custody after police say he tried to rob an Arlington Heights pizza restaurant at knifepoint Wednesday night.

Police responded to Rosati's Pizza on the 1400 block of East Hintz Road at around 8 p.m. Wednesday and were able to take the man into custody.

A manager at the restaurant said there were two customers inside when the man entered the store, but they were able to exit safely through the front door during the attempted robbery.

The Rosati's manager described the suspect as a young man who entered the store and began yelling at a female working behind the counter demanding she open the cash register.

While the man was demanding money, his mother entered the restaurant, took control of him and took the knife out of his hands, according to the manager.

He said police arrested the man inside the restaurant.

Ofc. Doug Hajek of the Arlington Heights Police Department said Thursday morning the Arlington Heights juvenile was detained, then transported to Northwest Community Hospital for a psychological evaluation.

He said it is unclear at this time if the juvenile would be charged.

The case remains under investigation, he said.
