For Oak Brook trustees: Manzo, Wolin, Yusuf
Daily Herald Editorial Board
Some of the candidates seeking three four-year terms on the Oak Brook village board say they’re interested in removing the black eye the village has been given from recent events. Three candidates rise to the surface in that regard. They are: Michael Manzo, Gerald Wolin and Asif Yusuf. All express an interest in restoring good relations with village employees and restoring integrity to village government. In addition, Manzo’s key issues are reducing attorney fees, which he says have come to $1.7 million during the past three years, and overtime costs, topping $1.2 million in the past two years. Wolin, an incumbent, has been a positive influence on the board. He, too, recognizes the need for cost containment. Yusuf is a straight-talking former trustee who understands the nuance of government. The other candidates, Anthony DiCanio and Kee D. Shin, are thoughtful and well-spoken, seem familiar with the issues, but we prefer Manzo, Wolin and Yusuf for their aggressive but measured talk on what’s important to Oak Brook.
