Fire forces family from Gages Lake apartment

A Gages Lake apartment was left uninhabitable after a bedroom fire filled the unit with smoke Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.

A resident of the first floor apartment at 33580 N. Royal Oak Lane in Gages Lake called 911 at 3:32 p.m. reporting the bedroom fire Tuesday, said Batallion Chief Jim Weidman.

The two story roughly 20-unit building was evacuated as the fire department worked to put out the blaze, Weidman said.

No one was injured during the fire, but the family who lived in the apartment has been forced to stay with relatives in the area due to heat and smoke damage to their apartment.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday night, Weidman said.

Preliminary investigations estimated the damage at $15,000.

Firefighters from Gurnee and Libertyville assisted the Grayslake department.
