Nalco stockholders approve merger with Ecolab

Naperville-based Nalco Holding Company stockholders voted to approve the proposed merger with Minnesota-based Ecolab Inc.

The approval came at a special meeting held Wednesday in Naperville, with more than 99.9 percent of the votes cast and 74 percent of shares outstanding were voted in favor of the transaction.

Offficials expect the merger to be completed by the end of 2011.

Cleaning and pest-control services company Ecolab Inc. said in July it would buy Nalco for about $5.4 billion in part to better position itself in the water management business. Nalco, based in Naperville, provides services to industrial, energy and institutional market customers.
