Give equal time to both beliefs

Regarding Lake Zurich District 95 candidates’ proposal to teach creationism: Sorry, Mr. Burke, evolution is not a proven fact. In order for a scientific theory to become a fact, it must be observed. Since none of us have observed an ape turning into a human, evolution is still a theory.

Even if evolution were true, there would be thousands of transitional-form fossils (meaning fossils with half ape/half human characteristics). In fact, there are none. When scientists believe they have one, another scientist will prove that it was either an ape or a human, not both.

Those who believe in the theory of evolution have faith that Darwin and scientists are correct. However, all scientists, including Darwin, make mistakes. Those who believe in creationism have faith in God, who is infallible. It is time that public schools give equal time for both widely held faith-based beliefs.
