Three hospitalized after crash near Gurnee

Three people were hospitalized — one in critical condition — after an SUV and car collided near Gurnee Saturday morning.

The crash took place just east of Stearns School Road and North Hutchins Road a few minutes before 10 a.m. Part of the intersection was closed while patients were taken to the hospital and police investigated.

The collision flipped the SUV onto its roof. The female driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in good condition.

Firefighters had cut through the other vehicle to get the male passenger out, Gurnee Batallion Chief Bob Heraver said. Both the car’s occupants — one in critical condition, the other in fair condition — were taken to Condell.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
