Palatine activates nonemergency action line

Palatine police, fire and public works are reporting the blizzard that hit town Tuesday afternoon left behind minimal, if any, damage.

Village Hall is open, and the village has activated its Palatine Action Line, a nonemergency number to report snow and ice issues. The number is (847) 705-5200.

Wednesday’s refuse and recycling pickup has been canceled due to the landfill’s closure, but will resume Thursday.

“I’m pleased to report there’s been no structural damage I’m aware of,” Public Works Director Matt Berry said. “The roads are pretty clear, too.”

Berry said trucks have been working nonstop since 3 p.m. Tuesday to clear the roads. All side streets have been plowed at least once, though high winds dumped more snow on them. They should get a second pass sometime this afternoon.

The fire department is asking residents to locate and shovel out fire hydrants, a simple and quick task that could save a life.
