'Sound of Music' takes the stage in Zion

Students ages 8-18 of CYT Chicago (Lake) present "The Sound of Music," one of the most beloved Rogers and Hammerstein musicals of all time.

Maria Rainer, a free-spirited nun in training, has trouble adjusting to convent life and is sent to be a governess to seven children of widower Captain von Trapp. Maria's love of music and of life soon endears her to the children, and even the strict captain begins to admire her. Full of favorites like "Do, Re, Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and "So Long, Farewell," "The Sound of Music" is an historic journey for the whole family.

The show runs about two hours with one intermission, and is recommended for second-graders and up. It will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday, May 7; 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday, May 8; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at the Christian Arts Auditorium, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive in Zion. Tickets are $8-$12 in advance, plus $2 at the door.
