Mattera pitches, hits LZ to regional title

Lake Zurich 7, Zion-Benton 6: At Zion-Benton, the Bears spotted the hosts a 3-0 lead, scored 7 unanswered runs and then held on to win the Class 4A regional, as the Zee-Bees scored three times in the seventh inning.

Megan Mattera hit her 12th home run and went 2-for-2 with a double, walk and 2 RBI for Lake Zurich (23-11), which advanced to Thursday's 4:30 p.m. sectional semifinal against Barrington at Buffalo Grove. She also was hit by a pitch.

Mattera earned the victory in the circle, as well, improving to 19-10. She went the distance, striking out six, walking two and allowing 10 hits.

Erin Sweeney also had 2 hits for the Bears, while Amanda Orchard had a single, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Kelly Neises had a single, run and an RBI, Ella Aslan added a double, and Kelli Blume had a base hit, 2 RBI and sacrifice.
