Scouting Lake Zurich at Zion-Benton

Last week: Lake Zurich def. North Chicago, 36-0; Zion-Benton lost to Lake Forest, 42-7.

Outlook: Lake Zurich opens North Suburban Lake Division action by facing a winless opponent for the second week in a row after having its way against North Chicago. Bears running back Jacob Brinlee, who's coming an all-state season as a junior, has yet to put up huge statistics in a game, but he's rushed for 303 yards (8 per carry) and his 65-yard touchdown run was the game-winner at Cary-Grove in Week 2. He also caught a 22-yard TD pass from quarterback Zach Till last week. ... Defensively for Lake Zurich, linebacker J.J. Raffelson has a team-leading 29 tackles, including 20 solos, 4 for loss and 3 sacks. Linebacker Tim Sayre had his second interception of the season against North Chicago. ... Zion-Benton has played three quality opponents in Deerfield (2-1), Minooka (3-0) and Lake Forest (3-0) and has been outscored 112-34.
