Illinois class includes Texas back, Pa. DB

CHAMPAIGN — A running back from the Houston area, a Pennsylvania defensive back and a Chicago-area quarterback highlight a 27-player recruiting class signed by the University of Illinois.

The Illini said Wednesday the players who committed included running back Donovonn Young from the Houston suburb of Katy, Texas. It also includes Monroeville, Pa., defensive back Dondi Kirby and Jon Davis, a tight end from Louisville, Ky.

Head coach Zook said he particularly liked Davis, noting the tight end has the athletic ability of a running back.

The class included players from 11 states. That includes Ohio, Georgia, Michigan and Florida, a favorite recruiting target for Zook.

The Illini finished last season 7-6 after a Texas Bowl win over Baylor.
