Shuttered roller rink’s roof collapses

No one was injured after the roof collapsed on a vacant roller rink in Round Lake Thursday night, fire officials said.

At 7:28 p.m. the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District was called to the building on the 700 block of Hainesville Road after homeowners nearby witnessed the structure’s roof collapse, fire Lt. Dave White said.

White was unable to say why the roof collapsed but believes it may have been the result of Tuesday and Wednesday’s record snowfall.

The roller rink is not operational so no one was inside at the time of the collapse. Firefighters searched the area around the rink for about half an hour and determined that no one was injured, White said.
