2 dead in extra-alarm blaze in Maywood

MAYWOOD — A second woman has died in an extra-alarm house fire in the western Chicago suburb of Maywood.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says the victims appear to be women in their 50s and 60s. Their names weren't immediately available.

About 40 firefighters were on the scene early Wednesday. They battled high flames and frozen fire hydrants and hoses.

Police Chief Tim Curry says two people were rescued from the home's porch and taken to Loyola University Medical Center. One of those rescued later died, and second is reportedly still hospitalized.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Temperatures were hovering near zero.
