Heavy snow falls across north-central Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS — Moderate to heavy snow that began falling overnight continues to accumulate across portions of northern and central Indiana, snarling roads for the morning commute and prompting school delays.
Forecasters say the snow should end over the state by early Friday afternoon, but lingering wind gusts topping 40 mph will whip up the snow, reducing visibilities and adding to the travel hazards.
A winter storm warning was in effect through 10 a.m. Friday for that portion of north-central Indiana running from about the Lafayette to Kokomo areas, where about six inches of snow are expected to fall.
Four to six inches are expected north of this area, while 2 to 4 inches could fall by late morning along the Interstate 70 corridor. An inch or less is expected south of Indianapolis.
