Why insist this 'right' continue?
On a recent weekend when thousands of young people marched in our nation's capital to protest abortion and witness to the sanctity of human life, President Obama marked the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade by calling on Americans to recommit themselves to protecting what he calls “a constitutional right.”
He stated that “the government should not intrude on private family matters.” However, not all activities carried out in the privacy of one's home and family are allowable, such as wife beating. In any event, no surgical abortion is private. There is the person who is directly causing the death of the unborn baby, and the rest of the staff who are involved.
President Obama goes so far as to defend partial-birth abortion. A partially born baby is stabbed to death with scissors, her brains sucked out, and then her head is pulled out of the birth canal. What a way to commemorate 38 years of the destruction of innocent victims — by insisting that this so-called “right” continue.
Obama states that we need to ensure that our daughters have the same opportunities as our sons. But never should a man or a woman of a civilized society seek opportunities by the taking of innocent human life. A woman's opportunities do not end with a pregnancy. Whether she chooses adoption or keeping her baby, there is much help for her. There are more pregnancy resource centers than abortion clinics.
Mothers who choose life are freed from the multiple negative physical and psychological consequences of abortion, which including regret, despair, depression, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse and promiscuity. These are not conducive to the building of a successful life. On the contrary, feeling good about yourself, an effect of making a life-affirming choice, is a necessary component of a happy, successful life.
