Signal Hill Chapter DAR distributes funds to local groups

Members of Signal Hill Chapter, NSDAR, of Barrington recently completed their 2016 charitable year of giving to local recipients.

Over the course of the year, Signal Hill distributed more than $8,000 to other 501 (c) (3) organizations, whose missions support DAR's mission of education, historic preservation, patriotism, conservation and Native American issues.

This year's recipients included five local area libraries, Elgin's Nancy Kimball Cobblestone House restoration, Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, The Stillman Wildlife Center, Barrington Suzuki Strings, Let It Be Us, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, GiGi's Playhouse, Crow Creek Reservation, Home of the Sparrow and Lake County Honor Flight, to name just a few.

Signal Hill Chapter has increased its national and community giving in the past six years by 500 percent, with steady increases each year thanks to member generosity and successful fundraising. In 2016, the chapter was recognized as the number one chapter in the state for overall achievement.

Signal Hill was founded in 1972 and is dedicated to preserving history, promoting patriotism, conservation and historic awareness in our community, and securing America's future through better education for children. Membership is established through approval of documentation of direct lineage from an American Revolutionary War patriot.
