South Shore running limited schedule to Chicago

CHESTERTON, Ind. — The South Shore commuter railroad is running a fewer number of trains between Michigan City and Chicago because of the winter storm and officials suspended all service between Michigan City and South Bend for the day.

South Shore spokesman John Parsons says the railroad made the decision to limit trains between Michigan City and Chicago on Wednesday because of deteriorating road conditions after heavy snowfall, anticipated light ridership and difficulty clearing its major parking lots in East Chicago, Hammond and the Hegewisch stop in Illinois.

Parsons says the railroad's passenger traffic Wednesday has been extremely light. He says the railroad expects to resume service to South Bend on Thursday.
