Walgreen's says it has hard-to-find shingles shots
A recommended shingles vaccine is in short supply in some places but Walgreens says not at its pharmacies.
The Deerfield-based retailer announced Monday that it has expanded availability of the Zostavax vaccine recommended for adults aged 60 and older.
Walgreen says the one-time vaccine is available at more than 2,000 Walgreen stores and Take Care clinics.
Shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus. Merck uses the virus to make both vaccines. But it says with a limited supply of virus, orders for the shingles vaccine may be delayed while it focuses on making chickenpox shots.
Shingles can affect anyone who has had chickenpox, but is most common in people 50 years of age and older.
