‘Street Scenes’ takes on presidential proportions

Prepare to take a stroll down Pennsylvania Avenue as Carmel Catholic High School’s “Street Scenes Visits the White House.”

The annual event takes place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, and Saturday, Feb. 12, at the high school, One Carmel Parkway in Mundelein.

For the past 37 years, “Street Scenes” has earned a reputation as the biggest theme party of the season in Lake County, and the most significant community builder, organizers said in a news release.

For one weekend each year the entire school is transformed into a party town atmosphere with more than 20 live bands, a huge casino, food and drink from popular area restaurants, comedy clubs and the famous Student Show in the Carmel auditorium.

The Student Show is professionally produced and choreographed and presented four times each night.

During “Street Scenes,” more than 30 rooms of show venues and concessions will spotlight bands and acts such as 8 Miles South, Bob Musial & Friends, Brass from the Past, Chuck-A-Roo & The Fabulous Memories, Manic Impressive, Piano Guy — Michael Stoinski, Sofa Kingdom, The Wild Onion String Band and Victor Pacini.

“It’s a great time of year for Chicagoland residents to get out of the house and enjoy a fun night out. We’ve assembled the best entertainment, food and beverage from the area all under one roof,” said Judith Mucheck, president of Carmel Catholic High School.

“We love seeing familiar faces and welcome new visitors to a Lake County tradition that has continued strong for 37 years.”

Tickets cost $20 in advance by calling (847) 566-3000 and are $25 at the door. Proceeds support Carmel Catholic educational programs. Attendees must be 21 and older. No smoking is allowed in the buildings at Carmel Catholic High School.

Lake and McHenry County sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, along with Carmel Catholic High School students, are invited to “Street Scenes Student Night” from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10. Admission is $6 at the door. Students will be able to enjoy several of the shows, including the Student Show, along with food and games at reduced prices.

The “Street Scenes” annual gala takes the collective effort of more than 1,000 adult and student volunteers to ensure success. For Carmel Catholic students, their major focus is to make the ad drive a success.

This year’s Directory of Advertisers can be accessed at carmelhs.org/streetscenesads. Carmel Catholic parents and other adult friends lend their support to “Street Scenes” as entertainers, artists, bartenders, stage crews, electricians, short-order cooks, ticket sellers, printers, seamstresses, waiters and waitresses, setup and takedown crews, and in many other ways as well.
