Tower Lakes grateful residents heeded warnings
Tower Lakes Village President Kathleen Leitner is crediting the efforts of Lake County and Cuba Township to keep people at home and off the roads in the wake of the powerful blizzard that hit the region Tuesday.
“Everybody took seriously the warnings to cancel your plans if you could, to plan to stay put,” she said. “And if that didn’t do it, I think the 20 inches of snow probably convinced everyone when they got up this morning.”
Leitner said Cuba Township had to cancel snow plowing last night about 10 p.m. because of visibility problems. Plowing resumed about 7 or 7:30 a.m.
Wauconda firefighters are asking homeowners clear their gas meters so that snow does not prevent them from venting gas. Furnace flues also need to be cleared to avoid a carbon monoxide buildup in the home.
Wauconda firefighters reported helping someone get to the hospital last night in time to delivery a baby, Leitner said.
