Thieves steal salt in Hoffman Estates

Maybe they were looking at the weather forecast. Thieves stole four to six tons of salt from a pile outside the clubhouse at an apartment complex in Hoffman Estates last weekend, police said Tuesday.

The thieves also stole 25 bags of water softening salt from the complex on the 700 block of Knoll Lane. The theft occurred between 6 p.m. Jan. 28 and 8 a.m. Jan. 29. The value of the salt was estimated at $1,000.
