Winter weather advisory

Precipitation starting as rain, turning to freezing rain, then sleet and finally snow is in the forecast for the Chicago area overnight.

Driving conditions are expected to be dangerous as a winter weather advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rainfall and localized flooding is possible early tonight before freezing rain and sleet take over, according to meteorologists.

Forecasts call for freezing rain to turn to snowfall at around midnight with 2 to 4 inches possible in some areas by 6 a.m.

Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are possible over the northern counties along the Wisconsin border, 1 to 2 inches is possible between I-90 and I-80, and less than an inch is expected south of I-80, according to the weather service.
