South Dakota defeats SIU-Edwardsville 90-67
VERMILLION, S.D. — Louie Krogman scored 22 points, Charlie Westbrook added 17 and South Dakota pulled away in the second half to beat SIU-Edwardsville 90-67 Sunday.
Trevor Gruis scored 13 and Jordan Boots had 11 for the Coyotes (13-13), who shot 55.7 percent and limited the Cougars to 39 percent shooting.
Nikola Bundalo led SIU-Edwardsville (7-20) with 14 points and Michael Messer had 13.
South Dakota went into halftime up 44-37, then opened the second half on a 16-6 run. Westbrook scored nine points during the spurt, including two free throws that put the Coyotes ahead 60-43 with 14:44 to play. The Cougars didn't get closer than 13 the rest of the way.
South Dakota controlled play on the inside, outrebounding SIU-Edwardsville 40-29 and outscoring the Cougars in the paint 48-28.
