The skinny:Though the Blue Demons had a bye after battling West Virginia to the wire on Jan. 4, Oliver Purnell tried to keep his guys on the same schedule. They worked hard for two days before conducting a “game” on Saturday and then added two more improvement days before today's Big East battle. If the Demons are going to halt their 16-game conference losing streak, they need to rein in junior power forward Herb Pope. He grabbed 20 rebounds and scored 14 points in Saturday's 5-point home loss to unbeaten Syracuse. Seton Hall doesn't shoot the ball well (39.8 percent), so the Demons must get their share of defensive rebounds. The Pirates had 17 offensive rebounds against 'Cuse — 9 by Pope. Miami transfer Donnavan Kirk will take part in his first DePaul practice on Thursday.
