5% income tax is unreasonable
I find it amazing that many in our state government want to impose an additional 2 percent income tax to the current 3 percent sales tax. The number of people out of work is unacceptable and many of those who do have a job did not see a raise in their income in 2010 or 2011 and senior citizens who did not receive an increase in their Social Security Benefits in 2010 or 2011.
With the health insurance premiums set to go up again, gas prices soaring and food prices on the rise, the income of working people is going backward.
The state of Illinois is in deep financial trouble because our elected officials were not fiscally responsible. What makes them think that we trust them with another chunk of our hard-earned money to squander?
Talk about a one-half to 1 percent increase in income taxes and make some major cuts to state government spending and then maybe the general population would be willing to listen. You can only go to the well so often and the taxpayer well is running dry!
