City says no chain link fences allowed in front yards

The Lombard Village Board of Trustees recently amended the zoning ordinance to restrict chain link fences from residential front yards in the village.

The village continually reviews its residential development standards to ensure the utmost aesthetics are taken into consideration when standards are required.

Staff has recently been reviewing fencing materials allowed in the front yards of residential properties, as they are most visible from the public right-of-way. As such, chain link has been specifically excluded as a permitted fencing material in front yards, in order to avoid negative visual impacts.

The text amendment to the zoning ordinance was approved on Jan. 20 by the village board.

Any questions regarding the ordinance change may be directed to the Community Development Department at (630) 620-5758.
