Rolling Meadows officer deploying to Afghanistan
Rolling Meadows police officers filled city council chambers this week to honor a colleague deploying to Afghanistan to serve in the Army Reserves.
Rolling Meadows Police Officer David Kim received a standing ovation and was presented with the City of Rolling Meadows flag at Tuesday's board meeting, after Mayor Kenneth Nelson read a resolution supporting his service.
“It's an honor to serve locally with David. Go there, be safe and come back in one piece,” Rolling Meadows Police Chief David Scanlan said.
Kim graduated from Rolling Meadows High School and attended Northwestern University for one year before serving in Iraq. After returning with an honorable discharge, Kim started working for the city's police force.
“Thank you for your service; we look forward to your return,” Nelson said. “We wish you the best, so good luck, my friend.”
Kim, who is with the U.S. Army Reserves 822nd Military Police Company based out of Arlington Heights, will soon be deployed to Afghanistan, where he will stay for about 12 to 18 months, officials said.
