Round Lake nursing home fire quickly extinguished

A fire that broke out at a nursing home in Round Lake around 5:30 p.m. Friday was quickly extinguished by an automatic sprinkler system, officials said.

The fire was contained to a single room of a residence at the Hillcrest Nursing Center, 1740 Circuit Court, but smoke spread throughout the building's 200 wing, causing the relocation of residents to the building's common dining area, said Capt. Pat Walker of the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District.

No injuries were reported, though a nursing staff member did receive medical treatment, Walker said.

The cause of the fire was unknown.

Crews were brought in Friday night to clean up smoke and water damage, and it was expected that residents would be able to return to their rooms, Walker said.
